A Message from John A. Burke, PVA

I have been employed with the Scott County PVA office for the past ten years and six years of that as the Chief Deputy. Before that I was a realtor for almost 10 years. This makes me very knowledgeable and confident when it comes to property values and the market here in our county.

As your new PVA it will be my honor to continue to serve my community as I have done in the past. I promise to continue with free access to our website for transparency. My team and I at the PVA office will always provide prompt and courteous service to the citizens of Scott County. To inform and educate the public of their taxpayer rights, and assess all property fair and equitably.

My goals moving forward, will be to continue training and education for myself and for the PVA staff to better meet the needs of the community, as well as to stay up to date with technology to run the office efficiently, while meeting all State deadlines.

Thank you,

John A. Burke

PROPERTY TAX QUESTIONS?

To promote better understanding of the Property Tax Process , the Kentucky Department of Revenue has developed a nice property tax website at  https://revenue.ky.gov/Property

It explains the property tax process, the tax calendar, assessments, tax rates and the billing process.

Check it out. I think you will find it informative. And remember your PVA staff is available to help with any property tax questions you may have too.

We are here Monday thru Friday 8:30-4:30

DID YOU KNOW?

How many people aged 65 or older OR that are on 100% disability, DON’T realize that they may qualify for the Homestead exemption?

It’s true…we get several phone calls and walk ins each week of folks who qualify, but didn’t realize it until someone else tells them or they may find it on our website. Your Scott County PVA office mails out a letter with an application at the beginning of every year to those who live here in Scott County that turn 65 in that current year as a courtesy reminder that you may qualify based on your age or if you are on 100% disability. If you are reading this and know some folks here in Scott County that may qualify for this, please remind them. Every 2 years, the State will look at the current amount of the exemption and decide if it needs to be raised, and if so, how much. Currently the amount for 2023 and 2024 is $46,350. This is how much will come off of your assessment amount to determine your tax bill for the year. (see below example)

If you have any other questions, feel free to call us at 502-863-7885 or come by our office on the 2nd floor of the courthouse and we would be happy to assist you.

REMINDER WHEN YOU SELL A CAR TO AN INDIVIDUAL…

This will make things quicker and easier when coming up to the Clerk’s office after you have sold a vehicle and want to get it out of your name to avoid being taxed in future years.
